Attic Insulation

Up to 30% of your homes heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your attic is the most cost effective energy upgrade to a property. If your attic hasn’t been insulated in the last 10 years it most likely needs a top up.
Generally 300mm depth of loft Insulation will bring up the property to the current minimum u-value of 0.16W/m2 for attic insulation. SEAI grants of up to €1500 are available.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Without effective ventilation moisture can be trapped in the home and turn into condensation, particularly in the winter when surfaces such as walls are cold creating a due point. The condensation can lead to damp and mould growth which can cause damage to your home and lead to respiratory illnesses for you and your family. SEAI grants of up to €1700 are available.

Flat Roof Insulation

A warm flat roof is formed by placing a layer of insulation over the top of the roof structure. Due to the insulation being over the top of the roof, the timber structure beneath is warm, which is why the term 'Warm Roof' is formed.

Attic Stairs

Attic stairs are a type of retractable staircase or ladder that provides access to the attic space. Designed to be easily folded and stored within the ceiling or wall when not in use. Attic stairs are a convenient way to access the attic for storage or maintenance purposes.

Dry Lining Interior Insulation

PIR insulation boards are among the most commonly used wall insulation materials due to their excellent thermal properties and ease of fitting and handling. Wall insulation boards like Mannok Therm Wall are specifically designed to suit wall applications and boast excellent thermal conductivity of 0.022w/mK. The rigid insulation is designed for reducing the rate of heat loss through the wall and subsequently reducing the overall U-value of the wall.

SEAI Grants

SEAI offer grants of up to €1700 for Cavity Wall Insulation and up to €1500 for Attic Insulation. We can guide you in your grant application.

FAQ

Insulating your attic can lead to considerable savings on your energy bills. With a High Cost Low Impact upgrade, you could save up to 30% of your energy bills.

To determine the right type of insulation, consider factors such as your home’s design, your climate, how your home was constructed, and the current R-Value of your home. Our experts at Powell Insulation can consult with you to determine the best insulation fit for your property.

The R-value measures how effectively the insulation material can resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the better the material can insulate. It’s something homeowners need to consider based on their region’s climate and the part of the house that needs insulation.

Common areas that can be insulated are the attic, walls, floors above unheated garages, and in crawlspaces. These are spots where most heat escape can occur in a typical home.

Improper installation of insulation can lead to skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. Some insulation materials also pose fire hazards if incorrectly installed. That’s why hiring professionals ensures that installation is done safely and effectively.

Signs of under-insulation include fluctuating indoor temperatures, high energy bills, and walls that are cold to the touch in winter. If your home has these symptoms, it’s a good idea to get an insulation check-up.

Typically, insulation can last for decades if properly maintained. However, if you notice a significant increase in your energy bills, draughty rooms, or damp insulation material, it might be time to consider an insulation upgrade.
